More video than coffee: A generic crowded market

UK video production companies outnumber Costa Coffee and Starbucks combined!

> Twice as many video businesses as petrol stations in the UK!

> A whopping 10 times more video firms than McDonald's in the UK!

> 17,000 video companies out there competing for business.

This week, I've been researching over 30 small video production companies for a presentation I’m preparing. Here are some trends that I spotted.

> Nearly every company sings the same tune: "brand partners," "full-service," "award-winning," "bringing brands to life," “tell your stories.”

> Niche expertise is seriously rare.

> Companies list services like "corporate video," "animation," "social content," “editing”, but rarely mention the problems they solve for clients

When everything looks and sounds the same the key differentiator becomes price. It's much harder to make good money when you're dealing with a price-shopper.

My challenge to production companies: ditch the generic, embrace your niche and shout about the problems you solve.
